Mental Illness is one of the leading causes of disability and injury on university campuses, but remains one of the most stigmatized topics. A lack of awareness, understanding, and conversation serves to perpetuate the stigma surrounding mental illness. As a result, a number of colleges and universities throughout the United States have begun a conversation and strengthened their counseling and wellness programs. While Drexel University has the infrastructure to provide mental health and wellness services to its students, it can do better to reduce stigma and support students who may be struggling. PHIA organizes and hosts events as well as providing written reports and materials to help the Drexel community become a more understanding and informed campus that is attuned to the mental health needs of its students.
