Community voice

You can think of PH Action as your one-stop shop for breaking and summary updates on what is going on in public health and how it impacts you. Public health policy and legislation isn’t always easy to access or understand. To fix this, PH Action provides straightforward information, tailored to the needs of a busy and learning student audience. PH Action as a whole includes three platforms: newsletter, Twitter, and website. The newsletter provides a monthly digest of public health news and action highlights. The Twitter account is your source for daily updates and information that surfaces between the newsletters. The website, where you are now, is the anchor that provides extended information and action alert details. Informed students can only do so much; this knowledge should also serve as a call to action. PH Action provides opportunities to engage through action alerts - ways for students to take action on an issue. These can include anything from volunteering for a local organization to lobbying for systematic change, or urging your congressman to advocate for healthier policies. You can follow up on some action alerts immediately and independently, like contacting your congressman. But don’t feel like you’re alone in this. PH Action collaborates with the Community Activism Committee of the Student Government Organization to provide Drexel-based action alerts for students to partake in together. The final component of PH Action is this blog, Community Voice. CV provides a platform for students, faculty, professionals, and community members to come together and discuss public health issues. Here you can find analyses on breaking public health news from any of these stakeholders, or learn the details about research faculty are conducting, what projects other students are working on, what services organizations in our community are providing, and what grassroots efforts are happening at the community level. You’ll learn more about how these efforts translate to action and what you can do to get involved. PH Action is for the students by the students, so don’t hesitate to reach out and join the conversation! If you want to contribute to this blog, have action opportunities to share, want to learn more about a legislative update, or want to join the committee that makes this resource available, email [email protected] with your thoughts and feelings. We look forward to the upcoming year of action. |
